Christmas Poems

Be Glad - Don't Be Sad

Once again Christmas time is here,
A time when you pull your family near.
We will sing songs of cheer and joy,
And thank God for his baby boy.

What a gift, Jesus Christ his son,
How He changed the world with all He's done.
He said just believe and you will see,
How wonderful your life will be.

So this time of year the cheer will flow,
All the joy will have everyone a glow.
But sometimes it's hard to feel the cheer,
When you've lost someone you love so dear.

Losing that love one hurt so bad,
In this season it's hard to be glad.
With your family together sometimes it's found,
That you catch yourself just looking around.

Even though you're in a familiar place,
You know what's missing, a special face.
But with your family there is much love,
And you know they're watching from above.

Jesus and that special one will say,
We know the ache you feel this day.
Don't turn your back on your belief,
In that fact you'll find relief.

God's special gift was so great,
Believe in Jesus, it will seal your fate.
And on the day your life is done,
You'll once again see that special one.

In this season you may be sad,
But because of His gift, you can be glad.

Christmas is a time for Love

Christmas is a time for Love; a time for Joy and Peace;
A time to trim the Christmas Tree and a time to stuff the geese.
It's a time when we can come together, however far or near;
To shed a little hope into a world of sorrow and fear.

Yet Christmas could be all year 'round, if only we would try
To gently wipe an old man's brow or soothe a baby's cry.
If we could smile throughout the year as we do on Christmas Day;
Just think what happiness we'd shed along life's weary way.

To give a gift of Hope to one who otherwise has none;
To be a Friend to somebody whom everyone else has shun.
To be Forgiving of our faults, and of our sisters and our brothers;
To Live in Peace and Harmony with ourselves and with each other.

Ah, don't you see that Christmas is more than opening up the gifts;
It's more than singing Christmas Carols and rolling in big snow drifts.
It's a feeling that can stay with you throughout each day, all year;
And all it takes is a loving heart.....and a sensitive little tear....

If You Look for Me at Christmas

If you look for me at Christmas,
you won’t need a special star;
I’m no longer just in Bethlehem,
I’m right there where you are.

You may not be aware of Me
amid the celebrations.
You’ll have to look beyond the stores
and all the decorations.

But if you take a moment
from your list of things to do,
and listen to your heart, you’ll find
I’m waiting there for you.

You’re the one I want to be with,
you’re the reason that I came,
and you’ll find Me in the stillness,
as I’m whispering your name.

Love, Jesus

Jesus was Born on Christmas

Jesus was born on Christmas,
on a very holy night,
and in the sky above Him,
shone the very brightest light.

All of the heavenly angels,
Sang a song to praise His name.
They told the lowly shepherds,
so they left their sheep and came.

From the east the wisemen roam,
bringing precious gift to share.
Riches for the King of Kings,
to show the Saviour that they care.

Now we celebrate His birthday,
in our hearts and everyday.
Jesus in your humble manger,
your true love is here to stay.

The Gospel Tree

There once was a shining Christmas tree
Standing out where all could see.
Its brilliance captured every eye
And seemed to cheer each passer by.

"The lights are so bright," they would say
And hesitate to walk away.
The tree stood proud ablaze with light
For every light was burning bright.

Then some bulb was heard to say
"I'm tired of burning night and day;
I think I'll just go out and take a rest
For I'm too tired to do my best;
Besides I am so very small
I doubt if I'd be missed at all."

Then a child lovingly touched the light,
"Look, mother, this one shines so very bright.
I think of all the lights upon the tree
This one looks the best to me."

"Oh my goodness," said the light
"I almost dimmed right out of sight.
I thought perhaps no one would care
If I failed to shine my share."
With that a glorious brilliance came
For every light had felt the same.

Our Gospel, like this Christmas tree,
With little lights which are you and me,
We each have a space that we must fill
With love, and lessons and good will.
Let's keep our tree ablaze with light,
With testimonies burning bright.
For our Gospel is a living tree
That lights the way to eternity.

The Meaning of Christmas

Far away in Bethlehem, a baby boy was born,
Born with neither riches, nor with fame,
Yet wise men came from all around to bring Him their gifts,
And peace was felt by all who heard His name.

Angels watched him as he slept, and gently rocked His bed,
Their voices singing softly in His ear;
His mother and his father both gave thanks to God above
For the greatest gift of all, their Son, so dear.

They knew His life upon this earth would not be filled with wealth,
They also knew He would encounter strife;
But most of all, they knew that He would be a loving Child,
And teach the love of God throughout His life.

At Christmas we celebrate this birth of Jesus Christ,
Let’s keep in mind the truth of Christmas Day;
For it’s not the Christmas wrappings, nor not the gifts that lie within,
But our gift of love to others in every way…

by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

It was The Fight Before Christmas

'Twas the fight before Christmas when all through the house
Not a good deed was stirring, and Dad was a louse!
Their mother was angry and loaded with care,
'Cause the gift list was longer than ever this year!

The children were nagging for gifts worth a ton,
And Dad was convinced, "Christmas just isn't fun!"
With Mom's loud complaining, and Dad mad at all,
They loaded the car for the trip to the mall!

They stopped first at Sears to buy Grandma a platter,
At Wards Sis tried on jeans that confirmed she was fatter!
They stopped at the ATM for some more cash,
And saw their new neighbors with THEIR Christmas stash!

Hearts sank as they saw what their neighbors could spend,
"We've got to buy more!" Everybody chimed in!
When, what to their shopping red eyes should appear,
But a sign with the answer to their Christmas fear.
"Use credit, use VISA, use MasterCard,
Just run up their limits, it's not very hard!"

More rapid than eagles, the charges, they came
And they whistled and shouted and called them by name.
Now Nordstroms, now Wal-Mart, now Price Club and Kinneys,
To Broadway, to Target, we'll finish at Penney's!
To the top of the porch, to the top of the wall,
Their packages piled up; they'd OUT-BOUGHT THEM ALL!!

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle mount to the sky,
So flew away hope of a Christmas of joys,
Not a problem was changed by the gifts and the toys.
And then, in a twinkling, Dad knew without doubt,
They needed to know, "What is Christmas about?"

That night in a dream he saw Bethlehem town,
And a babe in a manger with thorns for a crown!
And then what Dad saw brought the tears like a flood,
Christ's back was all tarnished where lashes brought blood.

A rugged old cross was his tortuous rack,
As he shifted it's weight to his now bleeding back.
His eyes, filled with burdens, 'twas nothing there merry,
The thorns had no roses, the night became eerie.
His dry thirsty mouth was drawn thin like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was plucked out cruelly, and slow.

The cross from his back held him high in his shame,
And the soldiers encircled his death with a game.
He had a kind face, in his eyes none saw hate,
And he shook when they laughed at his horrible fate.
He was dying for me, took my sins on himself,
And I wept when I saw him, in spite of myself.

A look in his eye, and the twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know, I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work;
And he took all my sin, and then turned with a jerk.
"It is finished," he said. Death he willingly chose,
Then GLORY TO GOD, from the grave He arose!!!

Dad sprang from his bed, shouting what Christmas gives.
"It's not all the gifts, but that Jesus now LIVES!"
So you'll hear them exclaim, on their next Christmas night,
Happy Christmas to all, WHO WILL KEEP CHRISTMAS RIGHT!!!

What's Christmas About?

It's not about when Santa comes.
It's not about candies and sugarplums.

It's about the belief in the birth of a heavenly babe.
Which will bring us eternal life, once we are saved.

It's not about getting the latest trend, toy or game.
It's about knowing the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, are the same.

It's not about the biggest tree or the brightest lights.
It's about faith in His word that will keep us on a path that's right.

It's not about the amount of money we've spent.
It's about the heavy load, on us, that causes His back to be bent.

It's about the ultimate sacrifice, in the name of love.
A man, once sent to us, as a messenger from above.

A man, once sent to us, to save us from our sins.
Always offering a way to live and to begin again.

Maybe, Happy Birthday are words that need to be said,
Along with Merry Christmas, as we lie and pray, in our beds.

It's about an oft said, cliché',
That needs to be repeated, especially on this day.

Jesus is the reason -- for the season!
